Convive is a student competition that annually invites architecture schools from Colombia and other Latin American countries to contribute innovative and viable solutions to contemporary challenges of housing, habitat and regional design. As such, Convive is a process of collective investigation put to the service of local governments and communities, offering new views and answers to problems related to the built environment. We estimate that ConvivE annually involves more than 1.000 students and teachers reflecting on and offering proposals to the posed cases.
The intention of the organizers of the 2015 competition was to tackle the deteriorated areas of the historic center of Bogotá, proposing the revitalization of a neighborhood known as “El Listón”, on the west side of the “Estación de la Sabana” train station. The delivered proposal focused on understanding the value of the existing urban structure and elements, surgically intervening the urban fabric with precise, contextual architectural proposals. In this way, the destruction of the existing fabric and with it, the memory of the city, is kept at bay.
